84th EDITION

STRINGS

The 84th edition of the OSM Competition will take place from November 6 to 11, 2023. After the immense success of the return of the in-person rounds and the orchestra’s first-ever participation in the final round, the Competition is back in force with an edition dedicated to strings.

As of March 15, 2023, eligible young musicians will have until May 23, 2023 to submit their registration form, payment, preliminary round recording and required documents. Click on the REGISTRATION tab for all the details.

This 84th edition of the Competition will award over $100,000 in prizes to Canada’s most talented young musicians. The prizes include cash awards ranging from $2,500 to $20,000. Concert and training opportunities will also be offered to the winners by the OSM and the Competition’s partners. In addition, the winners will become part of the OSM family and will often be invited to play in special concerts presented by the OSM.

The winner of the First Prize will receive $20,000 in cash, a residency at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium, a recording by Radio-Canada and its broadcast, as well as several other performance opportunities.

In addition, the competition dedicated to the work of Johann Sebastian Bach and his musical legacy returns this year. The jury will determine the winner from among all the semi-finalists and he or she will receive a cash prize of $5,000.

For a second year, the 10 selected semi-finalists will receive a $1,000 gift card from Air Canada, partner of the OSM Competition.
