About Romain Pollet

Romain Pollet graduated from the Conservatoire de Bordeaux in piano and bassoon. He holds a French State Diploma for piano instruction, a bachelor’s degree in musicology from Université Michel Montaigne, a master’s degree in piano performance, and a doctorate in collaborative piano (D.Mus.) from Université de Montréal. In recent years, he has received several scholarships, including the D. Angers and P.M. & V.M. Gélinas awards for piano performance. 

Romain has worked with several masters, including Jean-Philippe Guillo, Aurélie Forré, and Jean-Marie Lamothe in Bordeaux, followed by Marc Durand and Martin Mangrum in Montreal. He has participated in numerous masterclasses with artists such as Jean-Claude Pennetier, Prisca Benoît, Claire Désert, Dalton Baldwin, and Joan Dornemann. As part of his doctoral studies, he specialized in the German lied and French art song repertoires and conducted research on Liszt’s piano transcriptions of Schubert’s Müllerlieder, under the supervision of Francis Perron. 

As a bassoonist, he has performed with several orchestras in France and Quebec. As a collaborative pianist, Romain works with many Canadian artists. He is a member of the ensembles Orford Six Pianos and Duo Ex Æquo, with whom he has performed at numerous festivals, including the OSM Virée Classique, Orford Music, Festival of the Sound, Montréal Nouvelles Musiques, Vue sur la Relève, and Prairie Debut. 

In 2018, he joined the teaching staff at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal as a collaborative piano instructor and vocal coach. He has directed productions of Die Fledermaus by J. Strauss, Cendrillon by J. Massenet, The Juniper Tree by P. Glass and R. Moran, Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdinck, Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, The Old Maid and the Thief by Menotti, and Mesdames de la Halle by Offenbach. Since 2022, he has also co-taught the French art song/lieder class alongside Donna Brown.
