About Alex Hetherington

Praised for her “wonderfully rich, warm sound” (Opera Canada), mezzo-soprano Alex Hetherington was recently named one of CBC’s “30 hot classical musicians under 30”. She recently completed her tenure with the Canadian Opera Company’s (COC) Ensemble Studio and, in the 2024–2025 season, appeared as Siebel in Faust at the COC before making her Vancouver Opera debut as the Stewardess in Flight. Other operatic highlights include singing Mercédès in Carmen, Lapák in Cunning Little Vixen with the Canadian Opera Company, Ored in The Handmaid’s Tale at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, as well as premiering the role of Riley in R.U.R. A Torrent of Light with Tapestry Opera. Equally active on the concert scene, Alex has given performances with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Victoria Symphony, and Toronto Summer Music Festival.  

In the 2025–2026 season, Alex will make her role debut as Stéphano in Roméo et Juliette at the COC, debut as Dorabella in Così fan tutte with the Vancouver Opera and make company debuts with Boston Baroque and Les Violons du Roy.
